5 lip scrubs you can make at home for dry lips

Dry, dull looking lips is a problem no one likes to have. When your lips get chapped, they often get covered in a layer of crusty, peeling, annoying dead skin that usually ends up getting bitten or tugged off and that doesn’t do anybody any favors. Now your lips are bleeding and they’re sore and they are raw and soon they will be crusty again.

We all want the soft, smooth, juicy looking Angelina looking lips. Sadly, some of us are born with naturally super dry lips, which actually requires so much maintenance to get them looking all soft and pretty looking.

Lips are one of the focal points when you look at someone’s face, well I know it is for me anyway, not in a weird way. But it’s what most people pay attention to when you are speaking, and if your lips are looking dry then it’s not looking good.

The skin on your lips tends to become drier faster than other parts of your body because the surface skin on your lips is thinner. So use a mild exfoliant to slough off any dead skin on the lips and uncover smooth, healthy lips.

By now you’re probably using a scrub for your body. But what about your lips? That’s one super sensitive area that often gets neglected. Most people completely forget that they can in fact exfoliate their lips ☹ your poor little lips.

Lip scrubs for me are my go to way to exfoliate my lips, they are easy, cheap, and not to mention delicious! You can shell out and buy the already made stuff, or you can walk yourself into your kitchen, open the pantry and there you will find all you need for a simple little lip scrub. The good thing about scrubbing your lips is that it removes the dead skin, and if you use the correct oils in them they also nourish and lips and make them super soft and smooth.

Below are some easy DIY home lip scrub recipes, don’t be afraid to mix it up a little. They all have very similar ingredients but these are just my favs.

Coconut & Honey Lip Scrub

  • 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil
  • 1 Tablespoon Honey
  • 2 Tablespoons Sugar
  • ½ Tablespoon Luke Warm Water

The perfect little potion that is the humble lip scrub consists of brown sugar, honey and coconut oil.

All you need to do is mix a tablespoon of coconut oil and a tablespoon of honey. Stir until they form a homogenous mixture and then add two teaspoons of brown sugar. Mix everything together and if you need to you can add some more coconut oil to smooth out and blend the mixture better.

Now you’ve done that you just need to transfer the mixture into a clean jar. The best part about this scrub is the fact the honey and coconut found in it are well known for their moisturizing properties and the brown sugar helps gently remove the dead skin. And most importantly don’t forget to put some lip balm on, my key secret to achieving luscious lips is to actually apply lip balm on before bed. Key point is lip balm, an all-natural lip balm, no lipstick, lip liner, no other makeup, just the balm. This helps my lips to hydrate while I sleep.

I know, you’re probably thinking no way could it possibly be that easy! Well it is!!

Honey Sugar Lip Scrub

  • 2 teaspoons sugar (you can use pretty much any sugar: raw sugar, brown sugar, regular sugar)
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon almond oil
  • Optional: add a dash of cinnamon or cayenne if you want to naturally ‘plump’ your lips

Mix everything together in a small bowl until you have a paste. Apply to lips with fingertips and massage into your lips to gently slough off dry, dead skin cells. You’ll be tempted to eat the mixture – it tastes pretty darn good! Rinse with warm water and follow with lip balm. Keep any extra in a small container.

Chocolate Butter lips

  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp. Shea butter
  • 1/2 tbsp. oil – I used walnut oil
  • 1 tsp. cocoa powder

Mix your sugar and Shea butter in a small mixing bowl with a spoon. I used brown sugar but you can use whatever kind you like.

Next add your oil to the mix. I used walnut oil but feel free to use olive oil or any other kind you like!

Last but not least, the cocoa powder. Add 1 teaspoon for a chocolate deluxe treat! Mix it all together with a spoon and you are ready.

Sweet Almond & Peppermint Lip Scrub

  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 tsp sweet almond oil
  • 1 drop peppermint essential oil
  • 1/2 tsp brown sugar
